Jacqueline De Jong Pommes de Jong, 2012 Shrunk potato, sprouts, 18kt yellow gold plated earrings 6 x 25 cm Unique ref. N2 Pommes de Jong is an ongoing project that came to life in 2007 in Bouan (Bourbonnais, France) where in the mid 1990’s de Jong and her husband decided to buy a house. She created a vegetable garden and they planted potatoes in memory of the lack of food during the war. De Jong stored the potatoes in a 13th Century cellar and suddenly realized that she was fascinated by the huge amount of sprouts that were growing from the shrunk tubers. When de Jong was asked by a jewellery collector to make a jewel for her, she thought that she might do something with these shrunk potatoes and their sprouts that were getting longer and longer. Pommes de Jong were inspired by the idea of transforming a humble object into a precious one. In the realization of the wearable art, the potatoes and their sprouts are dried slowly by the artist over a period of two years and are submerged in a bath of platinum or gold becoming exclusive pieces of wearable art.

Pietro Consagra Orecchini, 1998 18kt yellow gold earrings with white diamonds Unique and signed In 1952 Pietro Consagra (Trapani, 1920) chose a frontal approach, eliminating volume and three-dimensional effects from his sculpture and opting for a single point of view designed to create a more direct, immediate dialogue with the spectator. Regarding his activity in the field of jewellery, apart from a piece created personally by him in 1947-48 for a friend, which was more a manifesto in favor of abstract sculpture then a real ornament, Consagra has collaborated with the three most important producers of art jewellery: Masenza, the Fumanti brothers and GianCarlo Montebello. The frontal dimension of his artistic experimentation is also reflected in the jewels created by his design, adapted mainly to be transformed into brooches or pendants, distinguished by the play of intarsia and engraving on foil, or by the superimposition of elements treated in different manners: the contrast between the glossy and the opaque, colour and monochrome and pavé of diamonds.

Ruote

Fausto Melotti Ruote, circa 1985 18kt yellow gold earrings Edition 8/8 Filippini Edition (Gemma Gioielli) Rejecting the traditional sculptural emphasis on volume and form, Fausto Melotti’s sculptures are de-materialized, penetrable and incorporate the empty space that passes through them. Emphatically geometric and rhythmically balanced, these works fuse Melotti’s love for mathematics and music. They have rigorous geometric proportions based on the golden section of base/height ratio and harmoniously combine straight lines and curves with concave and convex forms to create a sense of musical “counterpoint”. The jewels created in the 1980s carry the same pioneering, new genre of his modern sculptures.
