Rebecca Horn
Medusa, 2017
18kt yellow gold, tourmaline bracelets
4.5 cm

This jewellery project came to life through collaboration between Rebecca Horn and Luisa del Valle, a noted goldsmith living in Spain. After months of research, del Valle sourced rare stones, shells and ammonites to develop the concept of movement and energy central to Horn’s work.

Each piece is unique, hand-made and exquisite crafted by del Valle through the ancient Etruscan technique. As a result of their collaboration, this jewellery is a melange of antiquity and contemporaneity, timeless sculptural pieces in the form of rings, bracelets, and necklaces, which are deeply sensual. The spiral shape is present in all of these pieces of jewellery is one of Horn’s most favoured symbols and appears throughout her work.

Black tourmaline is revered as a premier talisman of protection, a psychic shield deflecting and dispelling negative energies, entities, or destructive forces. It guards against radiation and environmental pollutants, and is highly useful in purifying and neutralizing one’s own negative thoughts and internal conflicts, and turning them into positive, usable energy.
