Flying Gurnard Necklace with Lapis Lazuli

John Moore
Flying Gurnard Necklace with Lapis Lazuli, 2025
Sterling silver 18 kt gold, silicone, steel, magnets necklace
Unique within the series

With this necklace, the artist is inspired by a fleeting encounter with a Flying Gurnard — a remarkable fish known for its wide, wing-like fins of shimmering blue and green. During a swim on a family holiday in France, he witnessed one unfold its spectacular “wings” across the sandy seabed, a moment that left a lasting impression.
The piece pays tribute to that memory, continuing his exploration of fin and wing forms through delicate, radial shapes that capture the sense of movement, light, and wonder from that underwater encounter.
