Pol Bury Ring band spheres in yellow gold, 2001 18kt yellow gold ring 8 ex + IV EA 2.4 (W) cm Marylart Edition   Pol Bury emphasizes movement as an essential element of sculpture, stressing that his works are not complete until they are set into motion. Working with stainless and Cor-Ten steel, he produced monumental balls that spin or roll, columns that rotate, and planes that slope, all operated by concealed manual mechanisms. The movement that he assigns to these sculptures is often a slow, imperceptible action that does not immediately register in the viewer’s eye. These jewellery pieces are only completed once worn, as the movement of the hand triggers the motion of the elements.

Meret Oppenheim Sugar ring, designed in 1936, executed in 2014  silver gold plated ring with sugar and white marble 3.4 x 2.5 x 2 cm  Gems and Ladders edition   ‘I love natural materials. But everything man makes is nature, even plastic, even the atomic bomb,’ Meret Oppenheim observed in an interview with Valie Export in 1975. The sugar ring, which Meret Oppenheim designed in the mid-1930s, is an absurd and delightful combination of artifice and so-called nature, of opulent and cheap materials. The throwaway and frangile sugar cube is elevated to the status of a lasting, precious stone; an edible material is made wearable. At any time the wearer can exchange the cube for a fresh ‘jewel’ or even for a real gemstone.

Ania Guillaume Ginkgo, 2018 Silver and yellow gold plated ring Unique and signed Nature is Guillaume’s main inspiration: the subtle colours, the ingenious shapes, the amazing technical solutions.  Guillaume translates this inspiration, at the micro and macro levels, in her paintings and sculptures. Gingko is Guillaume’s one of a kind miniature wearable sculptures visually derived from the leaves of the ancient Japanese tree. The gingko leaf was purposely chosen by the artist not only for its singular beauty, but mainly for the its meaningful symbolism of longevity and wellbeing.When the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima in 1945, six Gingko trees were among the few living things to survive within a short radius of the blast site—and they’re still standing today. Thus, the Japanese regard the gingko as “the bearer of hope.” It is also known as “the survivor” and “the living fossil.” Guillaume first approached wearable art in 2011 using  gilded bronze, until the artist started moving onto gold plated silver and titanium, which proves to be much lighter, durable and with titanium more colourful. Each of Guillaume’s wearable sculptures are hand sculpted, sometimes leaving the artist’s finger prints on the surface of the work.

Liliane Lijn Magma Ring, 2013 Electroformed silver on cast silver band ring Edition of 10   Evocative of her visual abstractions and material manipulations, Lijn’s concept of the primal earth are finely tuned with the geological sciences. With these rings, they  resemble the same characteristics of the highly volatile liquid magma that keeps the planet alive and constantly rotating. This same magma that reaches the surface from volcanic eruptions, maintains the cycle of life and death, are drawn into continuous momentum of renewal and vitality that Lijn echoes in her Magma and Fossil series. The way these rings so fittingly encase the wearer’s hand engages in a very personal dialogue with Lijn’s motifs of the primal earth. In a very personal, meditative approach with these pieces, Lijn begins her pieces by moulding a clump of very hot wax around her hands to create such cuffs. The high temperature, although stung her skin, provided the malleable nature of the wax to manipulate the mass and resemble the magma of the earth. As technology has allowed her to work with a diverse range of materials in her sculptural work; instead of cast metal, electro-forming was used to carefully reflect the same earthen surface texture […]

Pascale Marthine Tayou Gri-Gri, 2017 18kt yellow gold ring with South Sea pearl, beads, African cloth, and coloured threads Unique within a series of 7 Signed Traditionally the term ‘gri-gri’ has been related to good-luck voodoo talismans of African origin. Likewise, Tayou’s rings are amulets that stem a positive energy coming out from the hidden beads – there is a Shaman potion hidden inside! To realize these unique works the artist wraps the cloth very tightly with different coloured threads around a pearl symbolizing purity. Tayou believes that art cannot be separated from life and consequently his artworks repeatedly include objects from everyday life, often gathered during his trips. The journey, the encounter, the energy, the spontaneity and chance are concepts that shape Tayou’s art, leading to pieces that entail an eccentric and colorful mix of everyday situations, human peculiarities and geographies. Jacqueline de Jong Pommes de Jong, 2017 Shrunk potato, sprouts, 18kt yellow gold plated ring 4 cm tall Unique ref. R5 Pommes de Jong is an ongoing project that came to life in 2007 in Bouan (Bourbonnais, France) where in the mid 1990’s de Jong and her husband decided to buy a house. She created a vegetable garden and they planted potatoes in memory of the lack of food during the war. De Jong stored the potatoes in a 13th Century cellar and suddenly realized that she was fascinated by the huge amount of sprouts that were growing from the shrunk tubers. When de Jong was asked by a jewellery collector to make a jewel for her, she thought that she might do something with these shrunk potatoes and their sprouts that were getting longer and longer. Pommes de Jong were inspired by the idea of transforming a humble object into a precious one. In the realization of the wearable art, the potatoes and their sprouts are dried slowly by the artist over a period of two years and are submerged in a bath of platinum or gold becoming exclusive pieces of wearable art.
