“Selected Jewels from Paris…” 6-15 February 2014
The exhibition “Selected Jewels from Paris / London…” was thought and designed to give people living in London and Paris the opportunity to view the jewellery which has been commissioned by galerie miniMasterpiece and Elisabetta Cipriani and has been designed by international visual artists and designers. The selected pieces of jewellery, which in total are 24 in London and 24 in Paris, have never been shown in a different commercial gallery. Some of these pieces have been presented in such Museum exhibitions as the wonderful itinerant show “From Picasso to Koons, the Artist as Jeweller” curated by Diane Venet and currently on view at the Seoul Arts Centre.
The world of the jewellery made by famous artists is very exclusive and unique. Collectors are always looking for something different that has a story. We have therefore decided to join the forces and to gather a strong selection of pieces, which have never been shown in the two cities.
Among others, Elisabetta Cipriani is thrilled to present the exquisite silver earrings by the famous Korean artist Lee Ufan whose work focuses on the dot and the line. Follower of the Mono-ha concept, he uses both materials made by humans (like metals) and row material (like stones) in his installations. Once the earrings are worn, they come to life and look very sculptural. Bernar Venet, French sculptor, whose work is exhibited all over the world, has finally made a ring and a brooch in a limited edition of 8. The ring “6 Arcs in disorder” follows the expression of his monumental sculptures whose lines became the support of all his demonstrations.
Barthélémy Toguo, a multimedia artist from Cameron presenting the first jewel design “Carpe Diem” which is inspired by his monumental wood “stamp” sculptures and linked to questions of identity and control, which is often a subject of his work.
In Paris miniMasterpiece will be presenting jewellery by artists Elisabetta Cipriani is collaborating with, like Rebecca Horn, Jannis Kounellis, Enrico Castellani, Kendell Geers, Tatsuo Miyajima, Carlos Cruz Diez, Giorgio Vigna, Atelier van Lieshout.
Both exhibitions present a different perspective to art and enable people to wear an exclusive and special jewel made by a visual artist. Made with precious metals and stones, these jewels are imbued with the same strength, poetics and sometimes provocation of a work of art.
